West Africa has in excess of 5GW of solar projects in the pipeline and numerous administrations keen to embrace solar in their energy mix, making the region a serious opportunity for solar development.
On the April. 21 – 22nd in Accra, Ghana – the Solar Media Ltd in collaboration with PV-Tech’s held it second Solar & Off-Grid Renewables Africa conference and exhibition which IDEAS for Us was represented.
The event follows on from the sell-out success of the first event held in Kenya. The theme of the conference was “Gigawatt opportunities in the West African large-scale and off-grid solar markets”.
This high-level conference explored the huge on and off-grid market opportunities with an elite panel of over 45 international expert speakers, in-depth discussions, fantastic networking opportunities including over 200 industrials players and investors under one roof to share and discuss opportunities and challenges facing African solar market .
In creation of cooperation among members country it was estimated that 40% of energy being generated worldwide and Africa should be renewal energy.
During the 2-day conference many questions were raised on how Africa can attract investors in the solar industrial. Some of the challenged faced by investors were as follows;
1. Political risk
2. Currency risk
3. The problem of clearing
4. The size of the market
Aside these challenges African has the potentials to increase it solar market and other companies partnering would help boost the solar market.
