Tika Ram Poudel: IREX Fellow from Nepal Joins IDEAS
An experienced international community leader, Tika Ram “Santosh” Poudel from Pokhara, Nepal has officially joined the IDEAS team, and will be contributing to the local and international IDEAS movement through a four-month fellowship funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and implemented by IREX. Santosh will be applying a global lens to issues facing Central Florida through practical work experience at IDEAS, while gaining transferable leadership and management skills he will later will apply back in his home country.
The IREX Community Solutions Program has matched 58 global leaders with American organizations in more than 20 U.S. States and the District of Columbia. Through hands-on collaboration, more than 55 American organizations, including IDEAS For Us, were vetted and selected to provide their leaders with community development experience in the U.S. on environmental issues and sustainability.
For more than four years, as a Chief Executive Officer for Pokhara Waste Management Pvt. Ltd, Santosh has been working in the field of waste management and he is mainly responsible for partnership development, policy advocacy and program development. During his fellowship in the U.S., he hopes to learn about Public Private Partnership model on waste management, develop new skills in community partnership, policy advocacy in the field of waste management, and build partnership with the like-minded organizations. Upon returning from the Community Solutions Program, Mr. Poudel plans to manage hazardous waste generated from health care institutions in his home community through implementing environment friendly common treatment facilities.
