On Wednesday March 23rd, IDEAS For Us Ambassador Justin Vandenbroeck led the Florida Alliance for Renewable Energy’s (FARE) Tallahassee stop on their Florida Renewable Energy Tour. The 2014 Florida Renewable Energy Tour traveled throughout 7 cities across the state, reaching an audience of over 1,000 individuals and businesses.
In Tallahassee, the tour featured an 83kW Roof Mounted Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Array on top of a local manufacturing plant, an 8kW Roof Mounted Solar PV Array on top of a student housing leasing office, and a 30kW Solar PV Carport on top of a Sheraton Four Points Hotel. In total, that’s over 500 solar panels combined!
Following the site visits, the folks attending the tour converged for a legislative briefing and a presentation by students from Florida State University (FSU) who are conducting a feasibility study on FSU’s Solar PV Potential. Together with 20 other students in their class, they have been engaging campus stakeholders to bring solar energy to the table; stakeholders have included: FSU’s Director of Sustainability, Chief Planner, Chief Architect, Director of Energy, and industry experts.
Overall, the tour led to further insight and opportunities in which Florida State University and the Tallahassee community can accelerate their role in the solar energy industry. As the people of Tallahassee continue to demonstrate their desire to integrate solar energy into the mix, it’s critical that our public servants and elected officials are in touch with this message. Next up for Tallahassee is the Solar Uprising Event on Thursday, April 10th located at the Florida State Capitol. See the flyer below for more details!
