On October 19th, 2013, members of IDEAS For Us had the opportunity to meet with the Executive Director of the Captain Planet Foundation, Laura Turner Sydel, and Roger Moenks, Founder of I AM ECO – an initiative to build a community that raises awareness about the intersection of sustainability & design.

As a part of I AM ECO, Moenks created a picture book and documentary highlighting ‘EcoWarriors’ from all over the world taking action to drive social and environmental change.

The documentary premiered at the Orlando Film Festival, showcasing efforts from inspirational leaders all over the world, including, Richard Branson, Michael Bloomberg, Laura Turner Sydel, and IDEAS Executive Director, Chris Castro.

Following the film screening, Castro also represented IDEAS and the importance of sustainability on a short panel discussion alongside both Seydel and Moenks, and moderated by ABC’s Greg Warmoth.

During the meeting with Seydel and Moenks, members of the IDEAS were able to tell their ‘story of self’ – touching on their passion and current involvement in the environmental movement. Both Seydel and Moenks were extremely supportive of the organization’s work to date – emphasizing that IDEAS is an authentic representation of a grassroots environmental movement.

IDEAS has begun connecting with the Captain Planet Foundation and I AM ECO initiative for future collaboration with the IDEAS movement, and a chance to work together on environmental education programming and project developments in the coming months.
