IDEAS For Uganda in Partnership with SPOUTS of Water trained volunteers and staff of Save The Children-Uganda in Basic Water, Sanitation and Hygiene at Rwenzori Gardens Hotel. The Trainees will serve as WASH ambassadors in Kasese District especially in Karusandara Sub-county where there is rampant flooding and silting of River Mubuku.
This arrangement saw the Integration of our Filters For Schools Project with Disaster Risk Reduction project of Save the Children. Among other topics, the trainees learnt about the effects of Open Defication, Consequenses of taking unsafe Water. They were also trained to use the Filters For Schools Curriculum and Activity Book to become effective teachers of WASH in Schools and Communities.
Under this partnership, one hundred eighty (180) filters will be donated to poor schools in kasese to enable them access safe drinking water and reduce student chances of acquiring water borne diseases, hence increasing their school days.
A practical session was also organized at Karusandara Primary school which is among the beneficiary schools. Here, members of the DRR club were empowered in WASH advocacy, and Save the Children Volunteers got the hands-on experience of WASH education and information dissemination.
