Green Marathon and Fruit Trees (IDEAS for Uganda)

In early November our wonderful team at IDEAS For Uganda hosted the Busoga Marathon. With a strong showing of youth from local schools and with the help of the local community our friends planted 100 trees, including 10 fruit trees from IDEAS Members, in Eastern Uganda, Kamuli district. We also had participants from several other countries including Sudan, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and the Congo. We were very fortunate to have the Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, Rt Hon. Rebecca Kadaga as our guest of honor and chief runner.

Our IDEAS leaders also hosted a radio talk show with the Kamuli Broadcasting Servicing informing listeners about IDEAS For Uganda, our past activities and future events, our involvement with the Marathon, as well as educating the public about IDEAS Five Pillars of Sustainability, and raising awareness of the importance of tree planting.

Many of IDEAS’ local partners including KBS Radio, Finance Trust Bank, DFCU Bank, Kakira Sugar Works, and DOTT Services Uganda attended and sponsored the event. It also helped us solidify a partnership with Kamuli Broadcasting Service who has help share our activities for several events.

We also want to acknowledge the help of Ms. Babirye Bridget from Kamuli Broadcasting Services and their management for making the radio show possible and presenting it in the local language for greater community participation.

A big thank you to everyone who participated in the very successful Marathon and for the hard work that our IDEAS For Uganda team, especially our leader Masereka Adidas and Sinamakosa Isaac, continues to put forth!
