IDEAS Organizers in Jacksonville, Florida are making serious headway in their efforts to plant 1,000 Trees in areas throughout the Bold City that merit restoration. On November 8, 2014 1,000 Trees Jax planted 331 native Shrubs with help from Jax Parks, local high-school students and other community volunteers. The group estimates that every three shrubs planted is equivalent to one tree, bringing their running total to just under 150 trees planted to date. With two more plantings in the pipeline – Planting Camp Milton (a large scale planting of 1,000 Long Leaf Pine tubelings) and a smaller-scale restoration project in the San Marco area, the group is on track to reach their goal by April 2015 when they are expected to begin efforts to take their project to the next level — 10,000 Trees Jax. Planting Camp Milton is set for Saturday, January 24th, 9am – 12 pm at the Camp Milton Historic Preserve in Jacksonville’s Westside. 1,000 Trees Jax has partnered with a number of local groups, including, but not limited to; Jax Parks, Greenscapes and The Timucuan Trail Parks Foundation to make this event a success. Organizers will need every bit of help they can get to ensure that 1,000 Long Leaf Pine tubelings are planted before the days end – if you are interested in volunteering at this event, contact — email@example.com !
